These are just some thoughts. I'm going to try really hard to keep these short, even just a line, if I'm able. Also, if I find a good quote from someone else, I'll put that in as well.

Suffering
Unless the hero surrenders all, even his life, he cannot be
honored or even noticed.
Unless the heroine loses her way and faces the villain who
threatens her life, she is only a girl.
Unless the robin pierces his breast with the thorn, he is an
unremarkable bird among millions.
Unless a child suffers under a life-sucking cancer, the
genius will not invent the cure.
Until the police brutalize and kill the protester, the wrong
will never be righted.
Unless the mother loses many nights, breaking her body and
spirit, weeping at her weariness, the child will not be fed or loved to become
the strong generation that will change the world.
Without suffering, nothing worthwhile is accomplished.
Chosen
Broken man, sitting on the road
Mourning for what once was
Jealous of the settled lives rolling by
Longing for a can of forgetfulness or two…
You
Yes, you
Are the chosen one.
The Great One has abandoned his children
Abandoned his saints
And chosen you,
who cannot endure this life,
who must beg for a coat or tent,
who is told where to go and what to do
To bring life to all.
Mourning for what once was
Jealous of the settled lives rolling by
Longing for a can of forgetfulness or two…
You
Yes, you
Are the chosen one.
The Great One has abandoned his children
Abandoned his saints
And chosen you,
who cannot endure this life,
who must beg for a coat or tent,
who is told where to go and what to do
To bring life to all.

Broken
The
broken is the vessel which understands it cannot be filled.
It has destroyed itself, breaking its sides with pleasure and narrow-mindedness;
It has been battered, struggling with what others find simple;
It has chosen the difficult path, only to find it is not sturdy enough to endure;
It has been abused, shattered.
Yet the broken is the chosen vessel of God.
What is useless to anyone else
Is precious without compare to He who creates beauty.
It has destroyed itself, breaking its sides with pleasure and narrow-mindedness;
It has been battered, struggling with what others find simple;
It has chosen the difficult path, only to find it is not sturdy enough to endure;
It has been abused, shattered.
Yet the broken is the chosen vessel of God.
What is useless to anyone else
Is precious without compare to He who creates beauty.
First Things First
You
cannot encourage unless you also listen
You cannot love unless you also rest.
You cannot pray unless you are world-involved.
You cannot listen unless you remain silent.
You cannot give unless you notice need.
You cannot express beauty unless you experience beauty.
You cannot grow until you see your smallness.
You cannot love unless you also rest.
You cannot pray unless you are world-involved.
You cannot listen unless you remain silent.
You cannot give unless you notice need.
You cannot express beauty unless you experience beauty.
You cannot grow until you see your smallness.
Same
Lovely and ugly are not dissimilar,
yet one draws and the other repulses.
Trustworthy and fear-inspiring are not dissimilar,
yet one prospers and the other is punished.
Saint and sinner are not dissimilar,
for both are rejected by the norm
when they are seen on the street.
As for me, I will choose the crescent moon
though all desire the full.

Little Things
A tree's worship |
God sees us all naked, without a facade.
Why such consternation over worship music?
God rejoices in the rhythm of the woodpecker
Social media, “foul” words, foods, piercings, cuttings
All of these are forms of communication
To help us hear the cry of the human heart
Why silence the cry of the desperate?
Why not just listen?
And support?
Lotus positions, liturgies, salahs and blasphemies
All are acts of reaching to heaven’s peace
Which God accepts as prayers
Why shut down the cry for shalom?
Why not just seek God’s mercy?
And response?

Wealth
Spiritual
wealth creates that which cannot be seen:
Not the wealth that creates buildings
or extravagant art
Spiritual wealth flows directly to those in greatest need:
Establishing communities of gratitude
Who forget the whos and wheres
And give all glory to the Most High
Thus does spiritual wealth
Become banks no longer found on earth.

Limits
The
truest knowledge knows its limits
and knows when to say “I don’t know”.
The truest compassion knows its limits
when its greatest gift is to say, “I cannot give.”
The truest love knows its limits
and admits to itself, “I cannot love.”
he truest peace knows its limits
and confesses to another, “Find your own peace.”
This admission is not a principle
but a temporary lapse.
